Kansas City Wizards

With 7 games into the season, the Kansas City Wizards have a record of 3 wins, 3 losses, and 1 draw and have accumulated 10 points. They are currently 3rd in the Western Conference after last year losing in the semi-finals of the post season to the eventual MLS Cup Champions, the Houston Dynamo. They also finished the previous season with an 11-12-7 record. Hopefully this season the Wizards can advance farther with their manager, Curt Onalfo, taking over for his second year.

Dawkins Leaves Duke

On April 26, former long-time assistant coach at Duke, Johnny Dawkins, was named head coach of Stanford. He will replace Pac-10 coach of the year Trent Johnson who is now the head coach for LSU. Acquiring Johnny Dawkins is a great move by Stanford, simply because he was mentored by one of the best, Mike Krzyzewski. Another reason Dawkins is a good choice. is that he knows the game and was a recognizable basketball player; he was an All-American at Duke and went on to play for nine years in the NBA. He will take over at a college that has a similar philosophies both on and off the court. Will he be successful after his first year or two? Probably not, because he lost both the Lopez twins to the NBA Draft. But i Believe he can quickly rebuild their program and have them headed towards the final four i the near future.

Grand Theft Auto IV

The highly acclaimed Grand Theft Auto series is releasing its first installment on the next-gen of video game consoles on April 28. Many stores will be opened for the midnight release. So far the game has received nothing but a congenial array of prodigious reviews by various websites and magazines reaching a perfect score rating in 8 out of the first 9 reviews; it was given a 9.8/10 by Gametrailers. This game has received lots of criticism due to its use of violence, drugs, sex, etc. Will this highly controversial game be revolutionary? Or will it just be another great game?

Testing the Waters?

As the college basketball season ends, players contemplate their decision whether to enter the NBA Draft or stay another year in college. Many of these athletes will enter the draft without and agent so therefore if they don't like where they are projected to be drafted then they will stay another year at college. This method is called "testing the waters". This could potentially hurt their college team by their coach not knowing whether the player is going to return another year or not. Should the ability for college players to "test the waters" be allowed?

One and Done

Each year McDonald's All-American recruits commit to various college basketball teams all around the nation in hope of being a star at their college. After having an impressive freshman season, these players then enter the NBA Draft and leave their college team in the dust. For some colleges this can bring hope and a rebirth to their program. Colleges such as Kansas State, having Michael Beasley, regained its status as school with a notable basketball team. However, Michael Beasley entered the NBA Draft after playing one year in college. By going "one and done" like Michael Beasley, it can potentially hurt the team they play for or the individual in several ways: the coaches recruiting, the team's chemistry, education for the individual, and the team's focus on that individual.
There should be a rule created that gives the player one of two choices; He can enter the NBA Draft straight out of high school or go to college and be required to stay there for at least three years. In the end the, the players that can make it in the NBA straight out of college should be able to enter the draft, instead of having to attend a college for a year which ultimately impedes their professional career as a basketball player.

Gouging Gas Prices?

Everywhere in the U.S. gas prices are rising and have now totaled up to a national record at an average of $3.51 a gallon. Many people can't afford gas like they used to and are starting to conserve more gas in several ways including; public transportation, riding bikes, walking, and just not driving places and staying at home. In California gas prices are higher than anywhere else in the country at an average of $3.86 a gallon. This increase in gas prices can exponentially hurt businesses because less people are starting to drive now. Is the rising gas prices becoming a national crisis?
